Shoppers return to pre-covid habits

At Alita Sales, we are always interested in the latest trends in general retail, retail pharmacy and the health and beauty market. A recent survey that grabbed our attention was the summary of the ‘Unlocking Retail’ survey published in Health and Beauty magazine in December 2022.

Here are the six key takeaways from the summary and some suggestions on how you can utilise these trends to grow your business…

Alita Sales Webrooming and Retail Pharmacy Marketing

1. The Majority of shoppers have returned to pre-covid patterns

New research from the unlocking retail study by shopper showed that over 70% of Australians are returning to their pre-covid shopping habits of preferring to purchase in store.

Having stocked shelves, eye catching POS, a clean store and friendly staff will make sure your customer’s experience os more enjoyable when they show in-store

2. “Webrooming” continues to grow

The study found that 40% of Australian shoppers will browse online before heading in store (the practice of “webrooming”).

So make sure you have a strong digital presence (website and social media in particular) so when potential customers “check your business out” online they have a great customer experience and will be encouraged to visit your store.

3. Returning to local & shopping centres

Consumers are continuing to choose local stores, with 50% taking an interest in where products are made and their sustainability, while others are returning to shopping centres. Consumers actively shopped locally during covid to stay close to home and support local community and this isn’t going to change anytime soon.

So if you are a local store selling local and sustainable products, make sure you are promoting this and customers know who you are and how they can find you.

4. Customers prefer shopping in store

While they still like to do their research and view products online prior to heading in store, consumers prefer to see, touch or feel products before they purchase. They also like the convenience of shopping in store, the experience of knowing what they are getting and avoiding the time wasting of sending back online items.

Having friendly staff, who are approachable and well trained to assist customers. plus clever and practical POS will help drive sales in store.

5. Click and collect bring in additional sales

While three out of four retailers reported that customers are also making other purchases when picking up a click and collect orders which is adding to sales revenue.

Making sure you offer click and collect as a service in your store will be advantageous to your business revenue.

6. Customers are looking for deals

As cost of living rises, consumers are prepared to shop around to get the best price and look for specials or sale products. Savings to attract customers as general prices rise people.

Having great specials and sales to attract customers as general prices rise and people are shopping around will help with sales in store.
