What do Pharmacies want to see at APP?

APP is the largest pharmacy conference in the southern hemisphere, and attracts over 6,000 proprietors, pharmacists, interns, students, pharmacy assistants, health and beauty brands, leading Australian pharmacy wholesalers and industry professionals to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre each year for networking, up-skilling and professional development.

We recently undertook an Alita SalesTracker survey where we asked a number of our retail pharmacy customers who was attending APP and this article outlines what the pharmacies most wanted to see at the conference.

The survey respondents were principally either pharmacists or assistants who identified themselves as buyers. A good indication of the decision-makers in pharmacy who determine what health and beauty products to stock.

What were the results of the SalesTracker survey?

We discovered that the top two reasons they were attending were to see new products and exhibitions and to get new deals. While people are also still interested in catching up with colleagues and attending seminars and training.

What do the results say?

The SalesTracker surety respondents were asked what the top two reasons they were attending APP and here’s what they said:

  • 27% nominated seeing new products and exhibitions
  • 27% nominated getting new deals
  • 25% nominated catching up with colleagues
  • 20% nominated seminars and training.

So given the top two reasons above we then considered why the Pharmacies nominated seeing new products and exhibitions and getting new deals as their top two answers…

Why attend APP to see new products and exhibitions?

From our experience and anecdotally we believe attending APP to see new products and exhibitions is important because:

  1. There are over 400 stands and 220 suppliers, so Pharmacists can see many products and suppliers
  2. APP is often the place when the latest industry innovations and product developments are launched
  3. Alita Sales, like many suppliers has more samples and product available for staff to try
  4. Buyers can see and compare brands and deals all in one place
  5. Staff get the chance to talk about products and their benefits in details – often difficult in a busy store environment
  6. Staff can see multiple display stands in one place and discuss new merchandising ideas

Why attend APP to get new deals?

We believe attending APP to get new deals is important because:

  1. With a volatile stock situation, although easing, APP is an opportunity try new challenger brands buyers may not be aware of
  2. With almost all the leading wholesalers and many brands exhibiting at APP, it provides buyers an opportunity to make sure they are on the right deal for their pharmacy
  3. Buyers can easily compare Brands and deals from multiple suppliers in one location at one time
